Aaron Finch and Josh Hazlewood set to be shock omissions from Australia’s ‘best XI’

AARON Finch and Josh Hazlewood could be the two high-profile omissions from Australia’s first-choice line-up for the World Twenty20.

Selectors are set to stack the side with as many all-rounders as possible and that thirst for versatility spells trouble for the world’s No.1-ranked batsman Finch and Australia’s best Test bowler, Hazlewood.

Shane Watson is certain to open the batting and selectors’ preference to maintain right-hand, left-hand combinations at the top of the order could see Usman Khawaja oust Finch in the most contentious call still to be made ahead of the tournament opener against New Zealand next Friday.

Left-handed Khawaja has said he believes he will be asked to make way for the more experienced man, but News Corp understands selectors still hold concerns over Finch’s ability to fire in difficult conditions overseas.

Finch is still very much in contention for the first game, both on the strength of his brilliant international record and the fact the Dharamsala pitch where they will face the Black Caps is expected to play nicely for batting.

However, if Khawaja can continue his hot form on spinning sub-continental decks, he remains in the box seat to partner Watson at the top and make Finch a controversial casualty.
